Some products are reordered in bulk, either in a different unit of measure than what you sell (Ex: Pounds instead of Ounces) or ordered in bulk quantities via carton, pack or boxes.

If you try to reorder your products in the unit you are selling, it can confuse your suppliers causing over or under purchasing. See the steps below to use kitting to help you with these reordering scenarios.

How to set up a Reorderable Product and kit it to your sold product

When you receive a Kit on a Purchase Order, Ordoro will increase the component inventory by Quantity needed to Kit. We’ll use this logic, to help us create a Reorderable Product in Ordoro. Click here for more details about how Ordoro receives Kitted Products on Purchase Orders.

This Reorderable product is a variation of an already existing product in your account. This product will be used to reorder on Purchase orders so that you can reorder at the units your Supplier expects. To set this product up, you’ll need to take some things into consideration:

  • What unit/measurement are you selling your product in?
  • What unit/measurement do you need to Reorder in?
  • Is it larger, or smaller than the product you sell?

Next, you’ll set up your Reorderable product in Ordoro, and then kit it to the product you sell to your customers.

1. Go to the Product List page. Select Other Actions and then Create a Product.

2. Create a SKU and Name for the Reorderable product. Be sure to include details that help you understand that this will be used to Reorder from your supplier. Include the Units/measurement in the SKU and Description (in the example below, this product is Reordered in units of 50). Be sure to reference the product you are associating this Reorderable product to. Select Create Product when you’re done.

3. Kit this Reorderable product to your original product that you sell to your customers. Click on your Reorderable product. Then select Convert to Kit/BOM.

In the Convert Product to a Kit Modal, Click Add a Product. Search for your associated product and select it. In the Qty Needed field, enter the conversion quantity needed. This is the difference in the units ordered from your Supplier to the units you sell to your customers.

  • If you reorder in pounds but sell in ounces, you’d enter 16.
  • If you reorder in feet but sell in Inches, you’d enter 12.
  • If your Supplier sends you boxes of 50, you’d enter 50, like in the example below:

Click Save. You’re Reorderable product has been created. This product will exist in Ordoro displaying the inventory you have on hand in units of 50. You’ll want to ignore this when it comes to your inventory counts, and Value of Inventory counts. This product will just be used to help you reorder in a different unit than you sell.

4. You’ll want to take a few steps to help clarify that this product is specifically only used for Reordering purposes.

  • Create and add a tag to this product (Click here for instructions). This will help you filter to, or exclude these products from reports, and help you to reorder using the Product Filters in Ordoro.
  • Assign the Supplier to this Reorderable product (Click here for instructions), and remove the supplier from the product you sell. You will now use this product to reorder for this supplier, so you don’t want your supplier assigned to your selling product to avoid confusion.
  • Add a UPC to the Reorderable product. You’ll use this to receive in the Reorderable product on a Goods Receipt (Click here for instructions), so this UPC should be specific to the Reorderable Unit/Case count, and not the unit in which you sell this product.

5. When you need to reorder your sold good, you’ll now add the Reorderable product to the PO. The inventory received on the PO for the Reorderable product, will be converted to Your Sold Products units.

In the example below, we’ll start with no inventory in either of our products.

Reorder the Reorderable product on a PO. Click here for instructions on how to reorder products in Ordoro. In the example below, we’ve requested 10 units of the Reorderable product from your supplier (Supplier A).

When you receive this product, Ordoro will receive in the Reorderable product, and in turn increase Your Sold Product inventory times the conversion quantity. In our example below, the Reorderable Product is made up of 50 of Your Sold Product. If you receive in 10 Reorderable Product units, it converts to 500 Your Sold Product units.
