What is a VAT/IOSS tax number and why do I need it?

VAT (Value Added Tax)

When shipping to the UK, all incoming goods are subject to a VAT tax. Depending on whether you sell to customers in the UK on a marketplace (Amazon, Etsy, eBay, etc.), or directly on your own website, will determine how to go about handling VAT.

IOSS (Import One Stop Shop)

IOSS is an online system used to track/collect taxes for companies shipping to Europe. If registered, you will receive an IOSS number so that you can easily pay your VAT tax online.

Depending on where you’re shipping, different types of tax may be collected.

To find out more specific information about VAT, IOSS, or other TIN protocols, reach out to the marketplaces you’re selling on and/or the shipping carriers you use to ship the goods.
