What items are considered Hazardous Materials?
Many common e-commerce products fall under hazardous material (hazmat) classifications due to their chemical composition, potential flammability, or other safety concerns. If you sell any of the following items, you may need to ship them as hazmat:
- Lithium Batteries – Found in rechargeable electronics, laptops, mobile devices, and power banks.
- Aerosols – Items like hairspray, spray paint, air fresheners, and cooking sprays.
- Fragrances – Perfumes, colognes, and other alcohol-based scented products.
- Paints & Paint Thinners – Including oil-based paints, spray paints, varnishes, and removers.
- Nail Polish & Removers – Many nail care products contain flammable ingredients.
- Adhesives & Glues – Industrial-strength glues, epoxy resins, and superglue.
- Household Cleaning Products – Bleach, disinfectants, and aerosol cleaning sprays.
- Lighter Fluid & Matches – Any flammable liquids or fire-starting materials.
- Compressed Gas Cartridges – CO2 cartridges for soda machines or airsoft guns.
If you’re unsure whether your product is classified as hazardous, check with your carrier or refer to their official hazmat guidelines before shipping.
Why doesn’t Ordoro support USPS Hazmat Shipping?
USPS has strict regulations regarding hazardous materials, including restrictions on what can be shipped, packaging requirements, and special labeling. Because of these limitations, Ordoro does not currently support the creation of USPS labels for hazmat shipments. However, we are working on integrating with USPS to generate proper hazmat labels in the future. If you’d like to receive updates on this integration and when it will be available, please get in touch with us at support@ordoro.com.
What happens if you ship Hazmat via USPS in Ordoro?
If you attempt to ship hazardous materials using USPS labels generated in Ordoro, there are serious risks:
- Detection and Cancellation: USPS may detect restricted materials in your shipments and cancel your USPS shipping account.
- Package Rejection or Delays: If USPS identifies hazmat materials in transit, your shipment may be delayed, returned, or confiscated.
- Fines or Legal Consequences: Shipping hazardous materials without proper authorization can lead to fines and penalties.
Alternative Shipping Options for Hazmat Materials
Since USPS is not an option for hazmat shipping in Ordoro, consider these alternatives:
- UPS Hazmat Shipping: Ordoro supports hazardous material shipping through other carriers. If you frequently ship hazmat items, this may be the best alternative.
- Direct USPS Shipping (Not via Ordoro): If you must use USPS, you’ll need to work directly with them to comply with their hazmat shipping regulations.
