Parcel dimensions affect your USPS shipping rates
If you have been entering 1 x 1 x 1, or shipping pacakges at the defaul dimensions (7 x 7 x 7) as the dimensions while creating USPS Parcel labels, STOP NOW! Those dimensions will affect your shipping rates. If you enter incorrect dimensions, USPS will charge you for the difference.
Correct dimensions = cheaper rates
Ordoro has negotiated cheaper dimensional rates with USPS for all our Basic and Pro customers. For example, if you live in Austin, Texas and want to use Priority Mail to ship a 20lb kettlebell to your cousin in Anchorage, Alaska. You package it in a box that measures 10 x 8 x 6.
- Standard online rate (from other shipping software) = $57.33
- Ordoro’s pre-negotiated discounted rate = $18.80
- That’s $38.53 that stay in your pocket and 67% savings!
Why does USPS care about dimensions?
Previously, USPS only looked at distance and weight information when determining rates. However that’s not all that matters. You may have a huge box that only weighs 1 lb, but it takes up a lot of room in the delivery truck. On the other hand, there could be a small box that weighs 5 lbs, but takes up only very little space on the delivery truck. The smaller the package, the more packages they can fit in a truck or a plane. Therefore, Ordoro was able to negotiate lower rates based on dimensions, weight, and distance with USPS.
What do you have to do get these rates?
Nothing. These new rates are enabled for all Ordoro customers.
