Shopify is introducing updated requirements for apps that use customer data. As of 2023, Shopify lists that personal data (including customer name, address, phone, or email fields) should be regularly anonymized to protect shoppers’ information.

To comply, as of mid-February 2023, Ordoro will anonymize all order data 90 days after the order is marked as shipped or canceled.

This applies to all Shopify orders in Ordoro, including ones imported before February 2023.

This is similar to Amazon’s Data Protection Policy Compliance, which requires all PII (personally identifiable information) to be obscured within 30 days of shipment.

Note:

  • All order information is still accessible on Shopify directly.
  • This policy is applicable to all third-party applications, not just Ordoro.

What is personally identifiable information (PII)?

  1. Customer name
  2. Company name
  3. Street 1 and Street 2 addresses
    • City, State, Zip, and Country will remain
  4. Email address
  5. Phone number

What does this mean for Shopify users in Ordoro?

Your Shopify order data will be visible in Ordoro for 90 days after:

  1. A shipping label is created.
  2. The order is marked as shipped.
  3. The order is canceled or archived.

After the 90 days is up, the data will be obscured and anonymized.

Ordoro will not affect orders in the following statuses:

  1. Awaiting Fulfillment
  2. Dropshipment Requested

Order Timeline

Once the PII has been obscured, you’ll see a Timeline Note like the screenshot below.


Shipping and Billing Addresses

In the address fields, the City, State, Zip, and Country are still retained and are searchable. All other data will be removed (Name, Company, Street 1 + 2, Phone, and Email).


Financial Information

All financial information tied to the order will remain. This is still accessible in the app, via CSV exports, and Analytics.


Shipping Label and Tracking Information

The shipping label will no longer display, but the tracking information (like shipping method, cost, etc.) is retained on the order level.


Packing List

The packing list will remove the customer information except for City, State, Zip, and Country.


How can I search for orders after the data is obscured?

Once the data is obscured, the best way to search for orders is by:

  1. Order number
  2. City, State, Zip, or Country

Search won’t work by your customer’s name or street information. This information is no longer accessible either as an address or timeline note.


How can I export my order data before it’s removed?

The Shopify order data will be visible for 90 days in Ordoro. You can download order information for record-keeping before the 90-day mark.

After 90 days, all data is obscured, and our Support team cannot retrieve it.
